Here are the founders of the Royal Academy. As you can see Angelica Kauffman and Mary Moser, founding members, are represented as pictures on the wall because it would be impolite to show them in the company of men (let alone the naked models!).



I just read a work which examined the picture in greater details. I draw your attention to the presence of another female figure in the picture, the mutilated classical sculpture pinned by Richard Cosway's curiously placed cane.
