Things I got for my birthday!

The books I ordered for my birthday have arrived....

They are all about lesser known PreRaphaelites.

Evelyn Pickering De Morgan who was an oil painter on a magnificent scale. She was greatly influenced by the PRB and, later in her life, spiritualism and the anti-war movement.

She was married to William De Morgan, a tile painter associated with William Morris' craft movement. They lived together, making art.

And I also got a book about Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale, an artist I had never previously seen represented in a book. She has been scandalously ignored, considering how many books recycle and recycle the same images from Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Holman Hunt, Edward Burne Jones, and the rest.

2.48 Melissa Iwai, Soup Day (2010)

I chose this book randomly from the shelf because I was looking for a book to encourage eating vegetables. And then, bonus!, it is eligible for this challenge.

It does all the things a book for a picky preschool eater is meant to. It has colourful foods and counting and games and at the end there is a recipe. Pearl looked at the recipe and said NO SOUP! so she is perhaps pickier than the intended reader.
