This is the first note Ethel Turner sent out as 'Chief Sunbeamer' for the children's page of the *Sunday Sun*.
Dear Boys and Girls -
Let us shake hands with each other and say we hope we find each other quite well, as it leaves us at present.
*The Sunday Sun* has sent over a comfortable basket-chair for my sunny verandah, and asked me to sit in it and catch sunbeams for you in between planting silver bells and cockle shells in my garden.
When first I saw the chair I was quite alarmed. I thought they meant me to write their leaders in it, or their sporting columns, or their fashions, or similar serious things. But when I found it was merely a matter of catching sunbeams! And for you, whom I have known so long! Well, I simply laughed and sat straight down in it.
Ever yours
Ethel Turner
