Back Up

I appear to have forgotten how to back up to my expansion thingy.

I can move stuff off the desktop into the expansion thingy but how do I save stuff that is not on the desktop? Every time I move something else over it disappears from the computer itself and immediately appears on the expansion unit without any sign that it is copying it.

Any advice?
