Viagra for Women

The American FDA is considering certification of the 'female Viagra', Flibanserin.

Now I personally find the idea of medicalising the range of sexual response really iffy, especially as this drug doesn't address a mechanical problem but affects the mind. I read a sample question for doctors on whether to prescribe it: You have a 33 year old woman with low sex drive. She works part time and has three kids and also cares for her mother. What do you diagnose? Answer: obviously she should be medicated so she wants sex. The fact that she might be exhausted for very good reasons is not relevant!

But even putting all that aside, what idiot came up with the name Flibanserin? Viagra was a marketing stroke of genius. Vigour. Niagra.

Flibanserin. Flabby. Flim-flammy. Flubbery. Try using it in a sentence: 'Mmmmm, flib me!' No, no, no!
