2010 Year in Review Meme
2010 Year in Review Meme
1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before? Had Ruby.
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year? On the whole, yes, including my unwritten resolution to have another child.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Lots of folks, and most importantly me!
4. Did anyone close to you die? No, although several in my extended acquaintance did, or people close to people that I know.
5. What countries did you visit? None:-(
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010? Enough money to stay home until my kids are in school, a bigger house, more time and energy for creative stuff.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory? 4th November, obviously.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
In chronological order - managing to work part-time despite the complete lack of support for this as an option at work; organising most of the art show for Worldcon; arranging to have Ruby, the pregnancy and birth; not that I did this but Pearl’s improved health.
9. What was your biggest failure? Not getting to Worldcon. In retrospect, I could have gone as my health stayed OK, but I chose not to as last time my blood pressure went mad at about that point in the pregnancy. I really really wish I could have gone. I didn’t even see the art show, after all that work.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Had the flu in August which has had the long term consequence of tandem feeding. I was so sick that I just let Pearl feed and she has reverted to full on feeding. Will have to go through the whole weaning process - done so painfully from January to July last year - again.
11. What was the best thing you bought? Definitely the wonderful fridge that makes my life so much easier.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? I admire Pearl’s determination and Ruby’s calmness. On a broader scale, I am constantly impressed by people whose blogs I read who are small scale activists for a greener world or for social justice.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Various politicians. Also the voting public who never seem to have any long - or even short - term memory. Those who think we can use resources endlessly while living on one single planet with finite resources.
14. Where did most of your money go? Living while working part time or not at all.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Ruby!
16. What song will always remind you of 2010? Not much as I currently have no radio.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner
iii. richer or poorer? poorer and about to become even more poor when my paid leave runs out.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Creative things. Seen my friends.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Stress over the administrative side of the art show. I feel like I got the worst of all worlds with the Worldcon art show - all the boring administration and none of the pleasure of seeing the art and meeting the artists.
20. How did you spend Christmas? With my kids at my folks’ place.
21. Who did you meet for the first time? I don’t think there is anyone, as, you know, I have a limited social life at the moment. (As in, I went out four times after seven last year and three of those were to do work for playgroup or to go to information sessions on parenting. Plus one fabulous meal for a friend’s fortieth birthday.)
No, wait, I did meet a group of lovely women with kids about Pearl’s age who go to the park regularly. It is lovely to meet up with them, especially on days when I have not spoken to other adults.
22. Did you fall in love in 2010? With Ruby, of course.
23. How many one-night stands? Alas:-)
24. What was your favourite TV program? Probably *Sherlock* and the new *Emma* for new shows.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Labor, why must you hate on the refugees.
26. What was the best book you read? Big call in a year with new books by Connie Willis and Lois McMaster Bujold. I really could not say.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Zip.
28. What did you want and get? My dear little baby.
29. What did you want and not get? Enough room in the house and the garden.
30. What was your favourite film of the year? I only saw *Sherlock Holmes* and I did not like it. Holmes does not punch Watson.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 39 so next year will be a big, exciting one.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010? I wore the same two outfits for much of the year. Grey tracksuit and t-shirts at home, black pants and red shirt at work. I was so pleased to not be pregnant and be able to wear something else. I even got myself new sandals so now I own three pairs of shoes (shoes, sandals and slippers!)
34. What kept you sane? Fabulous friends, especially those who helped out in the immediate post-birth period.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Hmmm, honestly, can’t think of one.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Demonising refugees.
37. Who did you miss? Friends without children as my lifestyle is incompatible with seeing them. I get up when they are asleep, we have naps when others are having lunch, we go to bed when others come home from work. It is incredibly hard to see people as we live in another timezone.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010. Get across hard ground as lightly as possible.
39. Something new that worked out really well for you during the year: Not to be repetitive, but Ruby.
