Ruby is a dear, sweet little girl. She is slow to warm up with strangers but is completely charming once she is confident. She has a smile that lights up a room.
She is generally a pretty calm girl and has an amazing ability to self soothe. She loves her hugs and cuddles and kisses. She usually lives life on an even keel, though she does have a very stubborn streak. She will continue repeating what she wants until she gets it.
She understands about 99% of what is said to her and can speak in two or even three word sentences. She has an endearing habit of exchanging ‘g’ for ‘d’ so she asks for a ‘gwink of water’.
She adores stuffed toys and animals, loves cuddling them. She loves real animals too. She is probably my parents’ dog’s favourite person because she gives her pats and feeds her constantly. Most of her favourite books feature animals and she really likes pointing to them and naming them.
She has an imagination now and will play at feeding and cuddling her toys. She can also tell jokes, with her favourite being to shout ‘Monkey! Head!’. The correct response is ‘A monkey on my head? Oh yes, he is jumping off! He is jumping onto your head! How silly is that?’
She learned to walk at 22 months and adores getting around like a grown up girl. However, her legs are still her weakest part and when she has a cold or is under the weather she goes weak at the knees. Last weekend she mostly crawled and sat down plaintively asking to be carried (while another two year old jetted past like a turbo-charged champion). When she does walk, she is still very tottery as all the action comes from the hips and not her knees. I hope she is OK to walk this weekend because her birthday party will be in the common area where the prickles make crawling impossible.
She loves dressing up and has very definite ideas about how she should look. As with her sister, I figure that they can mostly choose their own clothes. She loves stripes, bright colours, flowers, necklaces, bling and handbags. She has really strong ideas about how her feet should look, chooses the socks very carefully, almost never going for a pair of them. She also selects her sandals or shoes and makes sure the orthotics are in them. I find it adorable that after she is dressed she always goes to look in the ‘miwah’ to check herself out.
She loves her family very much, and I especially love it when she gives her ‘sis-tah’ hugs and kisses.
She really is just a little champion.
