My Mum had the girls for four hours and I got to see a movie - my third in four years!
I enjoyed it though obviously the first hour dragged and there was no need at all to see whathisname the Brown and his idiotic rabbit sled.
Seeing rather than reading the text did highlight the ridiculousness of the ecology of the Middle Earth which appears to have virtually no women.** And it is impossible to imagine what the Orcs are actually eating in their underground caverns.
** Except, obviously, I was channelling Pratchett and working on the assumption that six of the dozen dwarves on screen were women. I say Ori, Nori, Oin, Gloin and Boffur for sure.
