emma_in_dreamI should probably let people know the outcomes of some of the stuff I've mentioned in the past few months.
* Skype - Sarren kindly installed it. And then it drove me crazy, always popping up like a frenzied puppy on my screen. I could not figure out how to make it stop so I wound up deleting it.
I use Yahoo Messenger to call my sister in London and it works... kind of. The line tends to go crackly every five minutes or so, so we have to keep redialing. But the important thing is that it is free.
Also, we've never been able to make images come up which is a shame as otherwise Pearl and Ruby could see their aunt. But, again, free.
* Child care/kindy - So, it turns out that everyone else knew that three year old kindy isn't run through the Department of Education but is offered privately at various day care places. And we've missed the boat on that one as apparently I should have enrolled her last year.
I looked at a whole lot of child care places. I really liked one - it was set up like a house with different activities that the kids could do at their own pace in different rooms. It didn't feel like an institution at all, but like a home. It has an eighteen month waiting list.
I put Pearl down at four places I thought were OK, none of which have any vacancies. I also looked at eight places that I rejected as unacceptable (all of which had vacancies).
I think I have now found the right option - a child care coop that runs three hours a week at the community centre. The cost is very little and, of course, I will work there one day a month.
It seems like about the right amount of time - just a few hours - to let Pearl get used to working in a group.
