*Thoroughbreds Don't Cry* (1937) is the first Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland collaboration. I think it is the first movie where Judy sings too.

Also, it has several scenes which could only have been filmed prior to the popularisation of Freudian thought. When Roger first sees Timmy he can't keep his eyes off him; when they talk together they mimic each other's body language. And, of course, who could overlook the horse riding scene? Or the trouser-stealing, massaging scene? Conducted while trying to exclude the girl who is also interested in Roger.
