*Angelina Ballerina*

emma_in_dreamI've been watching a lot of *Angelina Ballerina* with Pearl - and I realise that I am watching this in the same way that I watch other shows. The characters that interest me the most are the minor, background characters.
So, for instance, my favourite character in *Buffy* is Jonathan. I liked him before he was one of the evil trio, before the episode *Superstar*. In fact, I liked him from his first appearance. I remember that the end of season two features Buffy and Angel at some dance - but behind them, over their shoulders, you can see Jonathan. Very few people other than me probably noticed that. (And Special_Trille because I made her stop and rewind several times).
As an aside, I think it is this peculiar approach that leads me to fanfic. I like the peripheral characters, so I am then forced to fill in the blanks to imagine their lives.
In *Angelina Ballerina*, this approach means I like William, the beta male in Angelina's dance class. He's so easily cowed by the domineering Angelina. I especially love the episode when he is bullied by Sammy into playing soccer. He sucks until he channels his inner ballet-fiend and he dances across the field.
I also love Angelina’s cousin Henry who, apparently, has been abandoned by his parents. He spends all his time at Angelina’s house. He is so adorably clumsy and clueless and is always tagging along behind the bigger kids, trying to keep up.
And, of course, I love Angelina’s friend Alice who has a future as the sensible, wise-cracking friend in a sitcom before her.
