So, books in 2019....

111 books, of which 39 were non-fiction.

The vast majority of what I read was printed since 2000. There were 37 from the 2010s and 20 from the 2000s. After that, the most common decades were the 1990s and 1980s. I would attribute this to a lot of Bujold and Jilly Cooper this year rather than Georgette Heyer or Dorothy Sayers.

Oh my goodness, this must be the smallest total in virtually all my life.

Georgette Heyer Why Shoot a Butler? 1933

Georgette Heyer They Found Him Dead 1937

1, The screen which I got for free means that Pearl can watch her Little Ponies DVDs in a larger than matchbox size and I can read documents at the same time on a screen which is bigger than a postcard.

2, I am reading a Georgette Heyer which is full of dash, wit and humour. Also, the main couple have incredibly camp friends. Also, I am intrigued to see that her works are so removed from the body it is impossible to tell if even the married couple at the centre are having sex (I think not).

3, I have covered up the ugly unpainted wall at work with about 50 photos of the girls.

I just read one of the books that Georgette Heyer had recalled. Alas, I see why. Not a great read - *Barren Corn* (1930).

Lots more Georgette Heyer mysteries and some excellent artsy craft magazines last month.

The most interesting reads this month were probably *Mother Journeys: Feminists Write About Mothering*, a collection of essays and reflections on mothering, and *Smart Mama’s Green Guide* which is one of those terrifying books that makes you aware of the dangers around you. Poisons! Poisons everywhere!

The most enjoyable were probably the Georgette Heyer mystery novels. I had never previously read them and they hold up well. (Of course they are snobbish - all those country house murders are - but I can deal with that because it is a feature of the genre. It is only the occasional piece of intrusive anti-semitism that is actually off-putting.)
