I'm glad the December book has been pushed back to January. I've just finished *War and Peace*. Wow, Tolstoy really disliked Napoleon. (In common, I guess, with most of 19th century Europe).

All I know about *Daniel Deronda* is that it features a guy who wonders whether he is Jewish. Apparently it never occurs to him to look in his pants to see if he is circumcised, so there are 900 pages of wondering. I've read one chapter so far.

It's brilliant! No wonder it is often listed as one of the best novels of all time.

I have yet to finish it - I am in the middle of the dramatic fall of Moscow.

The characterisation is unbelievable. It's like watching real people.

And the plot! I must admit I prefer the WAR to the PEACE, but the whole novel shows how the people live in both states.

I'm watching the DVD of the Audrey Hepburn version of *War and Peace* to help me with reading the book. (The way the characters' names keep changing is very confusing).

Even the movie version is very, very long! It's all war! Peace! More war!

War and Peace - 28 November.

Its very long but the 50 pages I've read are great.
